Other 1650 Psalm singing sites and CDs

The free 1650 Psalter App by Romesh Prakashpalan is available for those with an iPhone or iPad. It provides words, tunes, and a selection from John Brown of Haddington’s Commentary for each psalm. As the App states “the 1650 allows the humble Christian with the most meager musical gifts to sing through God’s songbook”. This is a handy way to share about the 1650 Psalter with others.

The Psalms Sung site provides acapella singing of the 1650 Psalter. The right-hand column offers other Psalter versions.

Connor Quigley Psalms offers selections from the 1650 Scottish Metrical Psalter on SoundCloud.

The Presbyterian Reformed Church offers a Soundcloud resource containing forty-eight psalms or psalm selections from the 1650 Psalter sung by their Iowa congregation. These were originally available as CDs, but now are online. Each tune is listed next to Psalm. For example the first psalm is Psalm 6 sung to Soldau.

Sing the Psalms is a rich source of information about the 1650 Psalter. It is also a source for CDs of Psalter with harmony CDs: “In this site we wish to share with you our enthusiasm for Psalm Singing and to tell you about the Worthy to be Praised  series of Psalmody CDs.  While many Psalmody CDs exist, these are unique, having one disc of beautiful Psalm Singing and one disc to teach the harmonies for these tunes”

Texan Rose has been offering links to psalm recordings at least since 2010. Some links go directly to the recordings and some go through another source to download.

Christ Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church offers free downloads of the psalms. Their site says: “For help learning the Psalms, included below is an Index of the Psalm Tunes, a zip file of the Psalm tunes in Midi format, and a pdf of the text of the Scottish Psalter.”
